About the Role

This is a full-time Lead Branch RVN position at Wicstun Vets, a purpose-built, RCVS-accredited hospital serving the Pocklington area. You’ll take on clinical leadership across the nursing team, combining hands-on patient care with mentoring and people management responsibilities. The role is based on a standard 40-hour, 5-day week with no mention of out-of-hours duties.

The hospital is exceptionally well-equipped with CT, digital X-ray, dental X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, dedicated rehabilitation suite, three theatres, and separate dog and cat consultation rooms. You’ll work alongside a collaborative team in an environment designed to support high standards of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead by example in delivering high standards of patient and client care across the nursing team
  • Provide clinical supervision and support to nursing colleagues in general nursing duties, anaesthesia, inpatient care, and infection control
  • Manage line management responsibilities, including performance development, recruitment, induction, and mentoring of nursing staff
  • Support coaching and professional development of team members
  • Maintain high standards of clinical record-keeping, RCVS compliance, health & safety, and GDPR requirements
  • Contribute to clinical standards, quality improvement initiatives, and continued professional development
  • Manage cost control, accurate charging, and stock management
  • Build trusted client relationships and obtain informed consent

Requirements

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Nurse with significant clinical experience in primary care
  • Proven leadership experience with demonstrated ability to lead by example
  • Strong clinical skills across general nursing duties, anaesthesia, inpatient care, and infection control
  • Experience in line management, team supervision, and supporting performance development
  • Confidence in recruitment, induction, mentoring, and coaching of nursing colleagues
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to build trusted client relationships
  • High standards of clinical record-keeping and regulatory compliance (RCVS, H&S, GDPR)
  • Commitment to clinical standards, quality improvement, and continued professional development
  • Financial awareness including cost control, accurate charging, and stock management
  • Positive, collaborative leadership style with focus on team wellbeing, engagement, and culture
