About the Role

This is a full-time permanent position at Alnorthumbria, a purpose-built RCVS-accredited small animal hospital in Alnwick. You’ll be working with a dynamic, sociable team in a well-equipped practice that’s staffed 24/7 to provide high-level hospitalised inpatient care. The practice is located in a charming market town with easy access to Northumberland’s coastal and rural attractions, plus proximity to Newcastle and Edinburgh for city breaks.

You’ll bring an interest in orthopaedics and experienced clinical knowledge to a team that values both hard work and work-life balance. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality surgical and medical care across the small animal caseload
  • Work collaboratively with the team on routine procedures, check-ups, and complex cases
  • Utilise the practice’s specialist facilities and equipment, including visiting diagnostic imaging, dermatology services, and referral dentistry
  • Contribute to the welcoming, supportive team culture and participate in knowledge-sharing with ECC and internal medicine certificate holders. We also have a visiting diagnostic imager, dermatology, and referral dentistry service.

Requirements

  • Qualified Veterinary Surgeon (RCVS registered)
  • Experience in small animal practice
  • Interest in orthopaedics
  • Willingness to engage with CPD and career development

Benefits

  • Competitive salary dependent on experience (discussed at interview)
  • Dedicated CPD support and access to internal courses developed by the practice’s L&D team of vets and nurses
  • Relocation allowance available for candidates moving to the area
  • Visa cost support for international candidates
  • Comprehensive wellbeing initiatives including Employee Assistance Programme, Cycle to Work scheme, and discounted gym membership
  • Forward-thinking policies: fertility treatment support, pregnancy loss support, enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption leave, and extended sick pay
  • CVS Save As You Earn scheme—purchase discounted shares and benefit from group growth
  • Health cash plans, discounted critical illness cover, private medical insurance (available after 1 month at discounted rates), and 8 weeks’ pay for exceptional life events
  • Access to Vet Oracle—clinical support platform with expert advice across multiple specialisms
  • Giving Back Day—paid volunteer time for a charity or cause of your choice
  • RCVS and VDS support
  • Discounted treatment for your own pets
