🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours work. Saturday mornings only: 1 in 5 rota, 9am–12pm.

About the Role

Airdrie VetsforPets is seeking a passionate Veterinary Surgeon to join a supportive, forward-thinking small animal team in Scotland. This is a flexible role offering both full-time and part-time options with 20–40 hours per week. You’ll work Saturday mornings (1 in 5, 9am–12pm only) with absolutely no out-of-hours commitments, giving you genuine work-life balance.

The practice opened in 2012 and was newly acquired in 2024 by three experienced vets—Andrea, Jenny, and Jane—who’ve collectively spent over 50 years in veterinary practice. They’ve intentionally built a workplace culture where clinical excellence and employee wellbeing go hand in hand. You can choose a consulting-only role or combine consulting with surgery, depending on your interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and complex small animal consultations within a carefully structured day: 15-minute routine consults, 30-minute slots for complex cases and euthanasia
  • Perform surgical procedures if you opt for the combined consulting and surgical role
  • Participate in scheduled catch-up time after consultation blocks to discuss cases and support colleagues
  • Contribute to practice meetings and clinical discussions with a team of 5 vets, 4 nurses, and 4 client care advisors
  • Complete protected admin time during your working day

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of veterinary experience
  • Registered with the RCVS
  • Willingness to work within a collaborative, supportive team environment

Benefits

  • Salary up to £60,000 depending on experience
  • RCVS, VDS, and BVA membership fees paid by the practice
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Private health insurance
  • Generous CPD allowance with funded certificate support
  • 5.6 weeks holiday plus your birthday off
  • Staff discount on pet care
  • Pawsome Benefits programme—retail discounts and cashback
  • Annual Christmas party
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Paid overtime or time off in lieu if you stay late

About the Practice

Airdrie VetsforPets is an established small animal practice with a large, loyal client base and a wide variety of interesting cases. The practice was acquired in 2024 by three experienced veterinary professionals committed to building a workplace where employees feel valued, supported, and genuinely enjoy their work. The team structure—five vets, four nurses, and four client care advisors—enables genuine collaboration and peer support without the pressure of working in larger corporate settings.

The practice has deliberately structured its working day to prioritise both high-quality clinical care and staff wellbeing: consults finish 30 minutes before closing, there’s protected time for admin and case discussions, and the rota is designed so no one carries the burden of out-of-hours work. This is a practice built by vets, for vets.
