Full Time
Shared OOH
Ready to join a thriving multi-site practice where your clinical skills are valued and your development genuinely matters? Ambivet Heanor offers a supportive team, varied caseload, and the backing of a well-equipped hospital—without the chaos.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

Share of out-of-hours duties on the practice's internal rota, with weekends and bank holidays also included. Practice operates its own OOH service (not external provider).

About the Role

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with Ambivet’s Heanor branch, a well-established first opinion practice serving Derbyshire. You’ll be joining a close-knit team within a multi-site group (6 branches) that operates its own out-of-hours service, meaning you’ll share OOH duties with colleagues rather than working in isolation. The practice prioritises high clinical standards and genuine team support, creating an environment where you’re encouraged to develop your skills and ask questions regardless of experience level.

The hospital is comprehensively equipped with ultrasound, radiography, dentistry, endoscopy, laparoscopic and general surgical facilities, ICU provision, and an internal laboratory. A visiting CT scanner ensures advanced diagnostic capability. You’ll encounter a varied and clinically interesting caseload that keeps your skills sharp while working alongside experienced colleagues and a leadership team known for listening to their clinicians.

This role includes a share of weekends and bank holidays alongside the shared OOH rota, typical for first opinion practice. Salary is dependent on your experience and experience level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on surgical and medical cases, performing diagnostic investigations with precision
  • Manage or lead on different case types as your confidence develops
  • Deliver outstanding clinical care to patients and provide reassuring client communication that builds trust
  • Contribute to clinical standards and mentor colleagues across the wider team
  • Share out-of-hours duties on the practice’s internal rota
  • Work collaboratively within a culture that encourages improvement and best practice sharing

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Surgeon with strong clinical autonomy
  • Confident in managing a varied caseload independently
  • Driven to provide excellent patient and client care
  • Committed to ongoing clinical development and gaining confidence in different case types
  • Natural team player and mentor—comfortable supporting colleagues and inspiring excellence
  • Able to work a share of weekends, bank holidays, and out-of-hours duties

Benefits

  • Salary dependent on experience
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid in full
  • Generous CPD allowance with access to BSAVA library (450+ courses) and fully funded postgraduate qualifications (CertAVP, PgCert) including tuition, exams, and study leave
  • Up to 33 days holiday with option to buy/sell additional days
  • Relocation package and visa fees covered (where applicable)
  • Access to Vet Oracle telemedicine specialists, Advanced Clinical Services Network, and Regional Clinical Leads for case support and mentoring
  • Health cash plan and Employee Assistance Programme
  • Wellbeing Champions and enhanced family leave policies
  • Staff pet care discounts—50% off services, MiPet food and medications
