About the Role

Bishop's Stortford Veterinary Hospital is looking for an experienced Head Veterinary Nurse to lead its nursing team through an exciting period of change. The hospital is entering a major refurbishment, with a brand-new purpose-built hospital due to take shape over the next 10 to 12 months.

This is a collaborative leadership role within a friendly, close-knit and highly experienced small animal hospital. You will be supported by an established Deputy Head Nurse and work alternating shifts, with senior nursing support always available within the hospital.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the nursing team in the day-to-day running of the hospital.
• Assist with consultations, surgery and diagnostic procedures.
• Oversee inpatient care and help maintain the hospital's standards.
• Maintain clinical equipment and support hygiene and safety compliance.
• Mentor colleagues and encourage professional development and further education.
• Communicate with clients to provide support, advice and continuity of care.
• Promote a positive team culture and strong patient welfare.

Requirements

• RCVN qualification.
• Previous Head Nurse experience.
• A genuine passion for leadership, patient care and developing others.
• Someone who enjoys teamwork and supporting colleagues.

About the Practice

Bishop's Stortford Veterinary Hospital is an independent, 16-vet small animal hospital in Hertfordshire. It has been caring for pets for more than 120 years and has held RCVS-accredited Hospital status since 1985.

The practice manages the vast majority of cases in-house, including soft tissue surgery and orthopaedics, and says it invests heavily in its facilities, equipment and people. It remains independently owned and concentrates solely on companion animals.
