Bishops Stortford Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced Head Registered Veterinary Nurse to lead its passionate nursing team during one of the most exciting periods in the practice's 120-year history. A major refurbishment is underway, with a brand-new purpose-built hospital set to take shape over the next 10-12 months. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week between 08:30 and 19:30, with a 1-in-4 weekend day shift rota. Very occasionally, you may be asked to cover a night shift or provide second-on-call support for junior team members, though these situations are rare.
You'll lead an incredibly skilled nursing team that manages the vast majority of cases in-house, including soft-tissue surgery and orthopaedics. You'll be supported by an established Deputy Head Nurse and work alternating shifts to ensure senior nursing support is always present. This is a collaborative leadership role where you'll nurture, develop and inspire colleagues while maintaining the high standards of care clients expect from a 16-vet small animal hospital.
Bishop's Stortford is a beautiful market town surrounded by rolling countryside, with excellent schools, cafés and restaurants. The practice sits opposite the leisure centre, and the area offers walking, cycling and outdoor swimming. London Liverpool Street is reachable in 45 minutes by train, Cambridge in 30 minutes, and Stansted Airport is just 15 minutes away.
Bishops Stortford Veterinary Hospital has been in continuous use as a veterinary surgery since 1878. The practice has held Hospital status (the highest standard for general practice veterinary clinics in the UK) since 1985. With 16 vets and a reputation for exceptional patient care, the practice invests heavily in the latest equipment and continues to offer individualised, personalised care as an independently owned clinic. The team is led by head vets Ruth Jackson, Neil Macleod, Poppy Ritchie and Lauren Romain.
