Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

Blythwood Vets is recruiting an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join their established small animal team across four closely located sites in northwest London. This is a full-time permanent role offering genuine work-life balance: a 40-hour, 4-day working week with manageable weekend cover (1 in 3 Saturdays and 1 in 6 weekends) and absolutely no on-call duties. Part-time applications are also considered.

You’ll be confident handling 15-minute appointment slots, performing routine consultations and surgical procedures, and working flexibly between consulting and surgery. The team operates from well-equipped main clinics in Bushey and Hatch End, with smaller branches in Stanmore and Northwood—all with direct train links into central London. While some sole charge work is required, you’ll be backed by a highly experienced nursing team and multi-vet support at the two main sites.

An inpatient evening rota exists where you’ll provide backup to nurses on checks; any patient requiring constant monitoring is transported to the practice’s OOH provider, keeping your workload manageable. Time off in lieu or flexible salary discussions are available following weekend work.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct routine consultations and clinical procedures within 15-minute appointment slots
• Perform surgical cases as part of a mixed consulting and surgery rota
• Contribute to a 1 in 3 Saturday rota and 1 in 6 weekend rota (daytime only)
• Provide evening backup to the nursing team on inpatient checks
• Work with a high-end first opinion client base, many of whom are insured
• Collaborate with the practice’s experienced RVN team across multiple sites
• Support career development of pre-registration veterinary nurses (the practice is a designated training practice)

Requirements

• Registered Veterinary Surgeon with UK RCVS qualification
• Experience in small animal primary care consultations and procedures
• Confidence working independently and as part of a multi-vet team
• Willingness to engage in active professional development and learning
• Ability to thrive in a high-end, insured-client practice environment
