Mixed Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a fixed-term opportunity (maternity cover) to join Greenside Veterinary Practice in the Scottish Borders for 12 months, starting early 2026. You’ll work a four-day week (36 hours) with a manageable 1-in-5 out-of-hours rota, giving you genuine work-life balance without compromising clinical variety.

Greenside Vets is a well-established mixed practice with a solid farm base and quality companion animal caseload. You’ll take a fair share of surgery and consulting work, but the team actively understands and encourages individual preferences and special interests. With dedicated nursing support on every OOH shift and no routine weekend consulting, the practice has genuinely thought through how to make on-call sustainable.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide mixed animal veterinary care across both farm and companion animal clients
• Participate in surgical and consulting schedules with flexibility around your interests
• Share out-of-hours on-call duties on a 1-in-5 rota, supported by dedicated nursing staff
• Contribute to the supportive, collaborative culture of a three-vet practice
• Engage with the broader Linnaeus clinical network and development opportunities

Requirements

• Minimum 2+ years post-qualification experience
• Mixed animal veterinary experience (or demonstrated competence in both disciplines)
• RCVS registration
• Confident communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
• Flexibility to work a four-day rota including 1-in-5 out-of-hours cover
