Full Time
Shared OOH
Ready for genuine work-life balance with a team that respects your time? Greenside offers a supportive mixed practice where your preferences matter, farm skills are valued, and OOH rota is genuinely shared—not dumped on one person.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:5 OOH rota with dedicated nurse on call to support the vet. No routine weekend consulting.

About the Role

Join Greenside Veterinary Practice as a Mixed Veterinary Surgeon in the Scottish Borders, where you’ll work 4 days per week on a permanent basis with a manageable 1:5 out-of-hours rota. This role offers the genuine work-life balance many practices promise but rarely deliver—the team actively encourages discussion about your preferences and special interests, and actually accommodates them.

You’ll split your time between farm work (with a solid agricultural client base), companion animal consulting, and surgical cases. The practice has invested in modern equipment and benefits from a full referral support network including specialist vets, nurses, and physiotherapists on site. Out-of-hours cover is properly supported with a dedicated nurse on call alongside the vet, and there’s no routine weekend consulting to worry about.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mixed animal veterinary care across a balanced caseload of farm and small animal work
  • Participate in surgical procedures, consulting clinics, and farm visits according to practice schedule
  • Contribute to the 1:5 out-of-hours rota with nursing support provided
  • Work collaboratively with the established team of veterinary surgeons, nurses, and physiotherapists
  • Maintain clinical standards and engage with the Linnaeus CPD programme

Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years post-qualification veterinary experience
  • Registered as a veterinary surgeon with the RCVS
  • Confidence and competence in mixed animal practice (small animal and farm)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a supportive team environment
  • Willingness to engage in continuing professional development

Benefits

  • Leave: 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays, plus additional Birthday Leave
  • Professional Development: CPD allowance, 4 days annually to attend events, access to Linnaeus CPD Programme including certificate holder level courses, and extensive free online CPD resources
  • Fees & Registration: RCVS and VDS fees paid by the practice
  • Financial & Security: Life Assurance, enhanced sickness pay, enhanced equal family leave
  • Wellbeing Package: Employee assistance programme, eyecare vouchers, free annual flu jab, cycle to work scheme
  • Additional Perks: Staff discount schemes, e-car salary sacrifice scheme, recruitment referral rewards
  • Career Support: Clear career progression opportunities within Linnaeus
