1:5 OOH rota with dedicated nurse on call to support the vet. No routine weekend consulting.
Join Greenside Veterinary Practice as a Mixed Veterinary Surgeon in the Scottish Borders, where you’ll work 4 days per week on a permanent basis with a manageable 1:5 out-of-hours rota. This role offers the genuine work-life balance many practices promise but rarely deliver—the team actively encourages discussion about your preferences and special interests, and actually accommodates them.
You’ll split your time between farm work (with a solid agricultural client base), companion animal consulting, and surgical cases. The practice has invested in modern equipment and benefits from a full referral support network including specialist vets, nurses, and physiotherapists on site. Out-of-hours cover is properly supported with a dedicated nurse on call alongside the vet, and there’s no routine weekend consulting to worry about.
Greenside Veterinary Practice is a well-established mixed animal practice based in St Boswells, Scottish Borders, with a strong farm client base and quality companion animal component. The main site is well-equipped with modern facilities and benefits from a dedicated on-site referral team including specialist veterinary surgeons, nurses, and physiotherapists. As part of Linnaeus and Mars Veterinary Health, the practice combines independent thinking with access to a global network of specialists and resources.
Linnaeus is the largest family-owned veterinary company in the world, driven by purpose rather than short-term profits. The culture emphasises genuine support for staff wellbeing, career development, and work-life balance—not just as policy, but in practice.
