Equine House Vet Internship

About the Role

This internship offers structured exposure to advanced equine referral practice at a busy, multidisciplinary hospital. You'll work alongside experienced equine specialists and clinicians, managing a diverse caseload that spans medicine, surgery, lameness diagnostics, imaging, intensive care, and emergency services. The role combines hands-on clinical work with formal mentorship, teaching sessions, journal clubs, and case discussions to build your confidence and deepen your understanding of evidence-based equine medicine.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor hospitalised equine patients through ward rounds and clinical observations
• Assist with emergency admissions and intensive care cases, including perioperative care
• Support surgical, medical, and diagnostic procedures under supervision
• Participate in anaesthesia support and recovery management
• Contribute to lameness evaluations and diagnostic imaging cases
• Communicate with owners and referring veterinarians regarding patient progress
• Maintain accurate clinical records and case documentation
• Participate in the out-of-hours and weekend rota as part of the team

Requirements

• Veterinary degree and current RCVS registration
• Experience working as part of a clinical veterinary team
• Strong organisational and time management skills with ability to prioritise workload
• Clear, confident communication skills and collaborative approach to teamwork
• Positive, proactive attitude to learning and professional development
• Interest in evidence-based veterinary medicine and clinical best practice
• Professionalism, resilience, and ability to remain calm in a busy clinical environment
