Senior Equine Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a full-time, permanent position with Blaircourt Equine Veterinary Clinic, a well-established and highly respected equine practice in the Essex countryside near Chelmsford. You'll work Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, with participation in a shared out-of-hours rota, striking a genuine work-life balance in a supportive clinical environment.

The role suits a senior clinician with a passion for varied equine work. You'll manage ambulatory cases, orthopaedic and performance investigations, and surgical procedures, whilst playing an integral part in mentoring colleagues and developing the practice's clinical services. The practice serves diverse clients, from leisure horse owners to international competition yards, giving you exposure to genuinely interesting and complex cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a varied equine caseload including ambulatory, orthopaedic, and performance-related investigations
• Perform and support a range of equine surgical procedures
• Deliver exceptional patient and client care across the practice's main clinic and branch
• Support and mentor colleagues within the clinical team
• Contribute to the continued development of the practice and its clinical services
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients ranging from leisure owners to professional competition yards

Requirements

• RCVS registration with a Veterinary degree (BVSc, BVetMed, or BVMS)
• Significant experience within equine practice
• Confidence managing a varied ambulatory and clinical caseload
• Strong interest in orthopaedic and performance investigations
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced colleagues
• Proactive, flexible, and supportive approach to practice life
