Ready to shape a newly refurbished practice while enjoying hospital exposure? Join Village Vets across three Hertfordshire branches and gain the perfect balance of branch intimacy and complex hospital cases.
Weekend rota included but not overnight on-call; either 1 in 3 Saturdays or 1 full weekend out of 6 with time off in lieu. St Albans Hospital has dedicated night team, so no out-of-hours responsibilities for this role.
You'll work across multiple Village Vets locations in Hertfordshire, combining branch-based first opinion work with regular exposure to complex hospital cases at St Albans. This is a full-time permanent role working 42 hours per week across 4 days, including weekends on a manageable rota (either 1 in 3 Saturdays or 1 full weekend out of 6, with time off in lieu).
The opportunity spans three exciting settings. At Potters Bar, you'll be one of two new vets joining a team undergoing full refurbishment, reopening in June with brand-new facilities. This rare chance lets you shape systems, influence culture, and build relationships with a loyal, diverse client base. At Berkhamsted, a picturesque Chilterns location, you'll work with an established stable team in a charming market town while maintaining your hospital connection. Across all roles, you'll spend 1-2 days per week at St Albans Hospital gaining exposure to advanced diagnostics, emergency and critical care, and specialist mentorship from certificate holders in dentistry, ophthalmology, surgery, and medicine.
The St Albans team includes dedicated night staff, so there are no out-of-hours responsibilities for these roles. You'll enjoy the best of both worlds: the personal continuity of branch practice with loyal, insured clients and the clinical challenge of a busy referral hospital.
Village Vets is part of Linnaeus and Mars Veterinary Health, the largest family-owned veterinary company in the world. The practice operates three locations across Hertfordshire: Potters Bar (reopening June 2026 following full refurbishment), Berkhamsted (a picturesque Chilterns market town), and St Albans Hospital (a busy referral centre with dedicated night team and specialist certificate holders). Linnaeus comprises over 6,000 associates across primary care and referral practices across the UK and Ireland, united by a commitment to excellence and the purpose of creating a better world for pets.
The workplace culture emphasises inclusion, diversity, and staff wellbeing. You'll have access to a global network of specialists, development opportunities, and a comprehensive wellbeing package supporting both physical and mental health.
