Part-time small animal vet role offering genuine work-life balance: just 16 hours over two days with shifts that finish on time. Join a close-knit 4.5-vet practice where the Clinical Directors actually listen and support their team.

About the Role

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract offering the flexibility many vets are looking for. You’ll work 16 hours per week across Thursday and Friday, with early and late shifts shared on a rota basis—giving you structure and predictability without the chaos. Based at Midland Veterinary Surgery in Leyton, East London, you’ll have excellent transport links and a vibrant local neighbourhood on your doorstep.

Whether your strengths lie in consulting, surgery, or medicine, the practice will help you shape a caseload that suits you. The team already sees a small exotics caseload that could grow if this interests you, and two vets have completed medical certificates here, so there’s clear support for professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver first-opinion small animal veterinary care to dogs, cats, and small pets
  • Work collaboratively with 3.5 other vets, a dedicated nurse training programme, and a welcoming reception team
  • Contribute to clinical standards and patient care within a close-knit, supportive environment
  • Engage in tailored CPD and in-house learning to develop your skills
  • Access external support from group surgeons and ultrasonographers for complex cases

Requirements

  • Qualified Veterinary Surgeon (MRCVS)
  • Passion for first-opinion small animal practice
  • Ability to work flexibly across early and late shifts on Thursday and Friday
  • Experience or interest in consulting, surgery, and/or medicine

Benefits

  • Time Off: 6.6 weeks’ holiday including bank holidays, plus your birthday off
  • Health & Wellbeing: Private medical insurance, enhanced family-friendly leave and pay, 24/7 confidential Employee Assistance Programme
  • Professional Development: £1,250 annual CPD allowance plus 40 hours paid CPD time, access to Vetlexicon online resources, support for certificates and advanced learning, access to world-leading IVC Evidensia Training Centres
  • Financial Support: £1,250 annual Care Fund for every vet
  • Professional Memberships: BVA membership, VDS cover, RCVS fees covered
  • Lifestyle Perks: Cycle to Work and Green Car schemes (eligibility applies), retail discounts and cashback offers, reduced-cost veterinary care for your own pets
