Assistant Charity Shop Manager

About the Role

This permanent, part-time role is based at PDSA Penarth and offers 21 hours per week. You’ll need to be fully flexible across seven days, including weekends, and the role is built around supporting the shop day to day.

You’ll be joining a customer-focused retail environment where the emphasis is on creating a welcoming store, supporting volunteers and helping the team maximise profit for PDSA’s wider charitable work. The role also includes championing the charity locally, building awareness and encouraging both item and cash donations.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Shop Manager with the day-to-day running of the Penarth PDSA shop.
• Work alongside volunteers to help maximise profit and maintain a well-presented store.
• Support strong customer service and efficient stock rotation.
• Use financial and competitor data to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Help promote the PDSA name within the local community.
• Encourage item and cash donations and raise awareness of the charity’s work.
• Coach and motivate volunteers while supporting a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Experience from the retail sector.
• A proven track record of contributing to sales targets.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and confidence working with people.
• Organised, approachable and proactive.
• Ability to coach and motivate volunteers.
• Enthusiasm for PDSA’s work and pride in representing the charity.

This role sits within PDSA’s Penarth shop, where the team works with volunteers and the local community to raise funds and awareness for the charity’s work.
