About the Role
Join PDSA's friendly and supportive team at Hendon Pet Hospital on a 12-month fixed-term contract. You'll work across two sites (Hendon and Edmonton Green), experiencing a varied caseload from routine preventative care through to complex medical and surgical cases. This full-time position operates on a 1:8 weekend rota with approximately one operating shift per week, allowing you to develop skills across both medicine and surgery in a fast-paced charity environment where no two days are the same.
The role is primarily based at Hendon Pet Hospital (NW4 4JU) with regular rota commitments at Edmonton Green Pet Clinic (N9 9AA), typically around one day per week. Edmonton Green operates as a branch clinic, offering periods of sole charge consulting for vets who enjoy autonomy and clinical decision-making while remaining fully supported by an experienced wider team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload across medicine and surgery, making evidence-based clinical decisions
- Create realistic treatment plans that balance patient welfare with owner circumstances
- Deliver consulting work at both Hendon and Edmonton Green clinics
- Undertake sole charge consulting at Edmonton Green Pet Clinic
- Contribute to approximately one operating shift per week
- Build trust with clients from diverse backgrounds and work collaboratively with colleagues across both sites
- Support the team culture and contribute positively to the hospital environment
Requirements
- Registered veterinary surgeon (MRCVS)
- Adaptable, pragmatic and resilient approach to clinical practice
- Genuine passion for animal welfare and charity practice
- Confident managing a varied caseload and making evidence-based clinical decisions
- Strong communication skills and ability to build trust with diverse clients
- Ability to thrive in a busy environment and enjoy problem-solving
- Supportive team player with collaborative approach
- Experience within a charity setting is advantageous but not essential
