Ready to join a thriving independent practice with zero on-call and genuine work-life balance? Pet Practice in Amersham offers the clinical freedom and team support you've been looking for—no corporate politics, just excellent medicine.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No on-call, no Sunday working, no bank holiday shifts. Full-time includes every third Saturday morning only.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Pet Practice’s rapidly expanding Amersham surgery, which has achieved 50% year-on-year growth since opening in 2023. You’ll be working in a modern, well-equipped practice nestled in the beautiful Chiltern Hills yet within easy reach of London via the Metropolitan line—the best of both worlds for your lifestyle.

Initially a sole-charge position whilst the practice continues to expand, you’ll work alongside one permanent vet colleague, visiting specialist teams (ophthalmology, soft tissue, and orthopaedic surgeons), and have constant support from 25 clinicians and 100 staff across Pet Practice’s 13 practices. If you prefer part-time hours, these are available. There’s no on-call, no Sunday working, and no bank holiday shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality small animal clinical care across medical and surgical cases
  • Work independently as sole charge whilst supported by peripatetic medical and surgical teams
  • Collaborate with the Amersham team (one permanent vet, RVN team, and reception staff) and access specialist input as needed
  • Utilise modern facilities including digital radiography, ultrasonography, in-house Idexx laboratory, and dedicated surgical suites
  • Build strong client relationships in a growing practice with supportive clinical culture

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon (MRCVS or equivalent)
  • Experience in small animal practice (experienced vet preferred)
  • Ability to work independently with sound clinical judgment
  • Professional, collaborative approach to teamwork

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: £50,000–£80,000 FTE commensurate with experience and hours
  • Flexible hours: full-time (4-day week + every third Saturday morning) or part-time options available
  • No on-call, no Sunday working, no bank holiday duties
  • Up to 6 weeks annual leave
  • Loyalty bonus scheme
  • Staff recruitment reward scheme
  • Generous CPD budget and encouragement
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Staff animals treated at cost
  • 25–35% Pets Corner shop discount

About the Practice

Pet Practice is an independent, family-owned veterinary group comprising 13 practices across the region. Founded on the principle that staff wellbeing and clinical excellence drive success, the group reinvests all profits back into staff packages and facility upgrades. Major practice refits are scheduled every ten years, and three new practices have been added in the past 18 months. The Amersham surgery, opened in 2023, is a state-of-the-art small animal facility with digital imaging, in-house laboratory, and dedicated surgical spaces for routine and specialist work.

Pet Practice is proud of its culture of mutual respect, genuine work-life balance, and flexible rotas. Staff testimonials highlight the supportive environment, accessible leadership (the practice owner Ben Johnson is responsive to ideas and concerns), and the opportunity to practise clinical medicine without corporate constraints. The practice actively supports professional development and maintains strong team cohesion across all 13 locations.
