£50,000 – £80,000/yr
Newbury, South East
Full Time, Part Time
No OOH
No on-call, no Sundays, genuine work-life balance—and a thriving independent practice that actually invests in its team. Join Pet Practice in vibrant Newbury and work alongside experienced clinicians in a newly refurbished surgery with modern facilities.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No on-call duties. Full-time role includes every third Saturday morning (day shift only). No Sunday or bank holiday working.

About the Role

You’ll be joining Pet Practice’s brand-new Newbury surgery, which opened just last year in the heart of a charming market town surrounded by beautiful South England countryside. This role offers a sustainable schedule: full-time means a 4-day week plus every third Saturday morning, with absolutely no on-call duties, no Sunday working, and all bank holidays off. Part-time hours are also available if that suits you better.

The practice is building its caseload with support from owner Ben, part-time vet Chloe, and peripatetic surgical and medical teams. You’ll have immediate access to on-site nursing support and can call on the wider Pet Practice network of 20 surgeons and 70 staff across the group when you need advice or backup. The shared rota structure means you’ll be working alongside experienced colleagues rather than in isolation.

The Newbury surgery is equipped with digital radiography, ultrasonography, an Idexx in-house integrated laboratory, and dedicated surgical facilities that also serve visiting specialist surgeons in ophthalmology, soft tissue, and orthopaedics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical veterinary care across the full range of small animal cases
  • Contribute to the developing caseload at the Newbury practice
  • Participate in the shared rota with Ben and Chloe, supporting the practice’s growth
  • Work collaboratively with the on-site nursing team and wider Pet Practice clinicians across the group
  • Support visiting specialist surgeons (ophthalmology, soft tissue, orthopaedics) as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification experience
  • MRCVS registration
  • Professional enthusiasm and collaborative mindset

Benefits

  • Salary £50,000–£80,000 commensurate with experience and hours
  • Full-time: 4-day week plus every third Saturday morning; part-time options available
  • No on-call duties, no Sunday working, no bank holiday working
  • Up to 6 weeks’ annual leave in addition to the above
  • Loyalty bonus scheme
  • Staff recruitment reward scheme
  • Generous CPD budget and encouragement to develop clinically
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid by the practice
  • Staff animals treated at cost
  • 25–35% Pets Corner shop discount

About the Practice

Pet Practice is an independent, family-owned veterinary group comprising 13 practices across the UK. Founded 15 years ago, the group has deliberately remained independent and debt-free, reinvesting all group income back into staff packages and facility upgrades. Every clinic undergoes a major refurbishment every 10 years. The practice explicitly does not operate joint venture arrangements or lock staff into restrictive contracts—flexibility and mutual respect with team members are core values.

The Newbury surgery is the newest facility, having opened in 2024. It sits at the centre of the growing caseload the practice is building, backed by the clinical and logistical support of the entire Pet Practice network. Owner Ben Johnson is directly engaged with the practice and remains accessible to staff for ideas, concerns, and feedback.
