About the Role

This is a full-time opportunity spanning four days per week across the Rutland and Kings Veterinary Centre group, with flexibility to work from any of the five practice locations to suit your needs. You’ll enjoy a shared weekend and bank holiday rota, giving you genuine work-life balance while staying clinically engaged. As part of a forward-thinking practice preparing to open an exciting new purpose-built veterinary hospital in Melton in 2026, you’ll have the chance to be part of something special from the ground up.

You’ll have the flexibility to shape your role around your strengths—whether that’s focussing on consultations, diving into complex case work, or a mix of both. This is a practice that celebrates clinical excellence and recognises the value you bring, not just to patient care but to team development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality first-opinion clinical care across the group’s locations (Melton, Syston, Uppingham, Oakham, Market Harborough, and Corby)
  • Manage consultation-based work and hands-on clinical cases with clinical decision-making autonomy
  • Mentor and support newly qualified graduates, helping develop their confidence and clinical skills
  • Work collaboratively with a team of 22 vets (including several certificate holders), nursing staff, and wider practice team
  • Contribute to the on-site 24/7, 365-day emergency care service
  • Engage with the local community and support pet charities the practice partners with

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon (RCVS registered)
  • Proven experience in first-opinion small animal practice
  • Strong clinical decision-making ability and patient care commitment
  • Team player mentality—calm under pressure, approachable, and collaborative
  • Interest in mentoring and developing new graduates (desirable but not essential)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining composure
