Veterinary Care Assistant

About the Role

This full-time role offers a genuine entry point into clinical veterinary work, with structured development opportunities and a clear path to Student Veterinary Nurse progression. You'll work across a group of six connected practices in the Witham area, gaining exposure to varied caseloads and team dynamics. The role includes Saturday morning shifts on a 1:4 rota, with flexible hours between 7:30am and 7:30pm split between the main hospital and surrounding branches.

You'll work under the supervision of veterinary surgeons and registered veterinary nurses, supporting inpatient care, patient handling, clinical cleaning, and reception duties. Your communication skills will be valued as you interact with clients both in person and over the phone.

Key Responsibilities

• Animal handling and patient restraint under clinical direction
• Reception duties including client communication by phone and in person
• Cleaning and infection control of equipment and examination areas
• Laundry and laboratory support
• Maintaining clinical areas and contributing to a safe practice environment
• Supporting both inpatient and outpatient care delivery

Requirements

• Full manual driving licence, held for a minimum of one year (essential for this role)
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• A caring, professional approach with genuine interest in animal welfare
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a clinical team
• Strong organisational skills in a busy environment
• Reliable and motivated attitude with openness to feedback
• Previous experience working with animals in a clinical or non-clinical setting (advantageous)
