Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a full-time opportunity at Craigleith Vets for Pets, a modern, well-equipped surgery based within a Pets at Home store in Edinburgh's heart. You'll join a passionate team of two full-time vets, two part-time vets, three RVNs, a Practice Manager, and three client care advisors. The role includes a 1 in 3 weekend rota (Saturdays 9am to 5pm, Sundays 10am to 5pm), with time given back during the week to protect work-life balance. Part-time hours can also be considered.

Weekdays are fully supported by two RVNs and two receptionists, with at least one other vet always present. Weekend shifts involve sole charge work supported by one nurse and receptionist, focusing on sick and emergency cases with limited vaccinations and no scheduled surgeries. The practice is IFSM accredited as a Silver cat friendly practice and offers advanced services in emergency and critical care, feline nursing, dermatology, and clinical animal behaviour.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver general practice care across weekday sessions within a supported team environment
• Lead weekend emergency and critical care with nursing and reception support
• Triage and manage sick and emergency cases on weekend shifts
• Work collaboratively with the experienced RVN and reception team
• Maintain high clinical standards aligned with RCVS Practice Standards membership
• Contribute to the practice's advanced service offerings in feline nursing, dermatology, and animal behaviour

Requirements

• Registered veterinary surgeon with experience in general practice
• Confidence across all aspects of small animal general practice
• Ability to work independently and autonomously on weekend shifts
• Strong communication and team collaboration skills
