About the Role

You’ll join Vets Now Hospital Glasgow as a Diagnostic Imaging Intern, working within a busy multidisciplinary referral and first-opinion emergency practice at the heart of Scotland’s largest city. This is a structured 12-month training position designed to fast-track your expertise in imaging—whether you’re eyeing a residency, pursuing further qualifications, or simply want to build serious clinical depth. You’ll be based in one of the UK’s leading referral hospitals, with excellent mentorship from experienced clinicians and exposure to a genuinely diverse caseload spanning emergency cases, oncology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and internal medicine.

The role includes occasional out-of-hours shifts during bank holidays and holiday periods, plus Saturday morning discharge cover for referral cases—manageable additions to a primarily daytime training focus. Glasgow itself offers brilliant access to both city culture and outdoor adventures; Loch Lomond is just an hour away, and the Highlands beckon beyond that.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and interpret ultrasound examinations under supervision
  • Assist with interpretation of radiography and CT imaging studies
  • Engage in independent study and case-based learning to deepen diagnostic knowledge
  • Participate actively in case discussions, journal clubs, and structured teaching sessions
  • Support the training of rotating interns and externs in diagnostic imaging techniques and principles
  • Contribute to clinical research projects within the imaging team
  • Cover Saturday morning discharge rota commitments for referral patients
  • Work occasional out-of-hours shifts during bank holidays and practice holiday periods

Requirements

  • RCVS-recognised veterinary degree and current or eligible RCVS registration
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Completion of a small animal rotating internship in a multidisciplinary referral hospital setting
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and remain composed in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • High standards of clinical record keeping, professionalism, and attention to detail
  • Proactive, collaborative learning approach with commitment to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient welfare, clinical excellence, and ethical practice

Vets Now Hospital Glasgow is a busy private referral hospital and first-opinion out-of-hours emergency provider located in Glasgow’s city centre. The multidisciplinary team includes specialists in Diagnostic Imaging, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Anaesthesia, Emergency and Critical Care, Orthopaedics, and Soft Tissue Surgery, supported by a highly skilled nursing team. It’s part of IVC Evidensia, a leading veterinary care group across the UK.

The practice boasts exceptional in-house imaging facilities including two digital radiography rooms, digital fluoroscopy, two ultrasound machines (GE Logiq E10 and S8 cardiac), and a Siemens 32/64-slice Go.All CT scanner. All images are stored in a PACS system and reviewed using dedicated medical imaging software (CIMAR), giving you exposure to modern diagnostic workflows from day one.
