About the Role

Join Vets Now Middlesbrough's highly skilled emergency nursing team and play a vital role in delivering exceptional care when pet owners need it most. This part-time position sits at the heart of clinical treatment, where you'll work across triage, surgery, anaesthesia, and in-patient monitoring in a dedicated emergency environment. The role operates on a structured rotating schedule averaging 32 hours per week, with a predictable 4-week cycle that balances intensive night-shift work with planned downtime. You'll work predominantly 7pm–9am shifts across a mix of weekdays and weekends, giving you clarity on your working pattern and time to manage personal commitments. Part of Vets Now's network of 60+ out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals, you'll be supporting clinical teams serving 1700+ veterinary practices across the UK. The Middlesbrough location provides a high-acuity caseload with access to specialist equipment and a culture focused on professional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver first aid advice over the phone and perform in-clinic first aid assessment and treatment
• Manage and monitor critical care patients, including major body system assessment, in-patient trend monitoring, and rapid identification of clinical changes
• Provide physiotherapy support, pain assessment, wound care, and dressing changes
• Perform basic diagnostic procedures independently in sole charge capacity when required
• Maintain high clinical standards and contribute to the efficient operation of the emergency clinic
• Work collaboratively with the veterinary surgeon and wider emergency team to optimise patient outcomes

Requirements

• RCVS registration for a minimum of six months
• Demonstrable commitment to maintaining high clinic standards and animal welfare
• Genuine passion for providing compassionate care to clients and their pets
• Experience with emergency and critical care caseloads is advantageous
• Ability to work flexibly on a rotating night-shift rota
