24-hour ECC role. Shift pattern: mix of mid-week backshifts (mainly 4pm–midnight, some 5pm–1am) plus 1-in-3 weekend days (7am–7.30pm) and bank holidays.

About the Role

Join Vets Now Newport as a part-time ECC Veterinary Surgeon on a 12-month fixed-term contract. You’ll be working in one of the largest emergency hospitals in the south-west, handling a varied and interesting caseload that will sharpen your emergency and critical care skills. This role is structured around part-time hours: expect a mix of mid-week backshifts (mainly 4pm–midnight, some 5pm–1am), plus 1-in-3 weekend days (7am–7.30pm) and a fair share of bank holidays.

You’ll be joining a well-supported and enthusiastic team of vets, nurses, and animal care assistants in a fully equipped, modern hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver emergency and critical care to small animals across a 24-hour service
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including vets, nurses, and support staff
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat emergency cases across a broad range of presentations
  • Develop your ECC expertise through exposure to varied and complex cases
  • Maintain clinical standards and documentation in a fast-paced hospital environment

Requirements

  • Registered with the RCVS as a Veterinary Surgeon
  • Willingness to work in a 24-hour ECC environment
  • Ability to work shifts including weekends and bank holidays
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Available for a 12-month fixed-term contract
