About the Role
Join PDSA Derby as a Senior Veterinary Surgeon in a role where every day brings something different. You'll see a diverse caseload of medical and surgical cases, from straightforward treatments to more complex investigations. This is a full-time position where clinical leadership, mentoring, and hands-on care go hand in hand.
You'll be a visible, approachable senior member of the team: taking the clinical lead on cases, offering second opinions to colleagues, and helping to embed high clinical standards and good governance. The hospital is modern, well-equipped with separate dog and cat kennelling, in-house radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, piped gases and extensive orthopaedic equipment. Your colleagues have varied clinical interests, creating a collaborative environment for case discussion and shared learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership, handling a range of medical and surgical cases and guiding colleagues through complex decision-making
- Support colleagues with second opinions and evidence-based treatment planning discussions
- Coach and mentor team members, sharing your experience and helping to develop clinical skills and standards
- Build strong relationships with pet owners through clear communication and compassionate care
- Work across the clinical and client service teams to ensure joined-up, high-quality patient care
- Contribute to continuous improvement and help champion PDSA's mission and values in everyday practice
Requirements
- RCVS registration as a Veterinary Surgeon
- Strong clinical confidence and sound judgement with a calm, pragmatic approach to decision-making
- Excellent communication skills with pets owners and colleagues
- Experience coaching, mentoring or leading others
- A pragmatic approach to evidence-based treatment planning and client discussion

- Salary: £67,530 to £80,000 per annum
