Join a genuinely supportive small animal team where work-life balance is real: no out-of-hours, a 1:3 Saturday rota, and flexibility to swap shifts. Over 100 years of community trust, modern facilities, and room to develop your special interests.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1:3 Saturday morning rota; no overnight or weekday out-of-hours work. Shifts flexible and can be swapped with colleagues.

About the Role

Straid Veterinary Clinic is looking for a confident and caring Veterinary Surgeon to join its close-knit team in Beaconsfield. This is a daytime-only role with no out-of-hours commitments—you’ll work a 1:3 Saturday morning rota with the flexibility to swap shifts when needed. The practice welcomes both 4 and 5-day working patterns with a mix of early and late shifts, giving you genuine control over your schedule.

Set in the beautiful Chiltern Hills, you’ll enjoy countryside living with excellent city connections. High Wycombe offers great shops, cafés, and direct trains to London in under 30 minutes, making it an ideal base for work-life balance.

You’ll work with a small, loyal team of vets, RVNs, animal care assistants, and receptionists who genuinely support one another. The practice has a strong reputation for long-standing team members and clients, and actively supports local charities including Alley Cat Rescue and Cats Protection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a balanced mix of consults and surgery across the Beaconsfield area, treating cats, dogs, rabbits, small furries, and occasional exotics
  • Perform routine procedures alongside orthopaedic and advanced soft tissue surgery, with support to develop a special interest or use existing certificate skills
  • Work collaboratively with RVNs who actively lead nurse consults and procedures
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation and professional growth, with opportunities to expand services or pursue further qualifications
  • Participate in regular team discussions and shared learning with other IVC practices and certificate holders

Requirements

  • Qualified Veterinary Surgeon (RCVS registered)
  • Experience or confidence treating small animals and exotic species
  • Ability to work autonomously within a supportive team environment
  • Willingness to engage with professional development and expand your clinical capabilities

Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £75,000 dependent on experience
  • Relocation Allowance: Up to £5,000
  • Welcome Bonus: Up to £5,000
  • Learning & Development: £1,250 annual Care Fund for every vet, funded CPD allowance, and access to IVC academy training centres and role-relevant courses
  • Holiday: 6.8 weeks’ holiday including bank holidays
  • Professional Support: Access to mentors, regional clinical coaches, and peer networks
  • Family Benefits: Enhanced family leave and pay across maternity, paternity, adoption, and surrogacy
  • Professional Memberships: BVA membership, VDS cover, and RCVS fees covered
  • Health & Wellness: Private medical insurance
  • Financial Schemes: Cycle to Work and Green Car schemes (eligibility applies)
  • Employee Perks: Retail discounts, cashback offers, and reduced-cost veterinary care for your own pets
  • Workplace Comfort: Comfortable staff areas, quiet admin office, and unlimited tea, coffee, and weekly fruit and snacks

About the Practice

The practice is part of IVC Evidensia, the UK and Europe’s leading veterinary care group made up of over 900 practices and referral hospitals.

The well-equipped facility includes three consult rooms, separate cat and dog wards, a prep and dental area with dental X-ray, a fully equipped theatre, ultrasound, a dedicated X-ray room, and an in-house lab.
