ECC Veterinary Internship

About the Role

This 13-month discipline-specific internship in Emergency and Critical Care is based at Vets Now Specialist Referrals in Glasgow. You will work closely with an ECC specialist team while gaining hands-on experience in ICU and emergency referrals.

The rota includes day, back and night shifts, with dedicated time for study, research and collaboration across specialties. Interns are supported by an experienced ICU nursing team and have access to equipment including mechanical ventilation, high-flow nasal oxygen therapy and therapeutic plasma exchange.

The role also includes organised teaching, seminars and journal clubs, and is designed to provide a strong foundation for future residency applications within Vets Now and other hospitals.

Key Responsibilities

• Take part in the planning, diagnosis and treatment of ECC cases.
• Manage ICU patients and emergency referrals under supervision.
• Work with other disciplines to support joined-up patient care.
• Attend seminars, journal clubs and ad hoc teaching sessions.
• Contribute to clinical research projects with mentors.
• Keep accurate clinical records and provide ethical patient care.
• Work collaboratively with ECC specialists, residents and senior nurses.

Requirements

• A veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS.
• RCVS registration, or eligibility to register.
• Completion of a small animal rotating internship, or significant ECC experience.
• Eligibility to work in the UK, with visa sponsorship available for suitable candidates.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritise, stay calm under pressure and work well in a team.
