Animal Care Assistant

About the Role

This full-time position offers a genuine entry point into veterinary practice. You'll work alongside qualified nurses and the veterinary team at one of Mercer and Hughes' four Essex branches, with flexibility to cover across all sites as needed. Shifts run between 7:30am and 8:30pm depending on the rota pattern and location.

You'll gain exposure to all areas of clinical practice, from theatre preparation to patient care and reception support, building a well-rounded foundation in veterinary medicine.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist registered veterinary nurses with daily clinical duties
• Prepare theatre equipment and support surgical procedures
• Provide direct patient care and monitoring
• Support laboratory work and diagnostic procedures
• Cover reception during busy periods and staff absences
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in clinical and public areas
• Uphold practice policies and protocols
