Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal

Apply before: Jul 1, 2026

Up to £75,000/yr
Sheringham, East of England
Full Time
No OOH
Ready to join a friendly, supportive team on the Norfolk coast with no OOH nights and guaranteed ops days? Miramar Vets offers modern facilities, genuine work-life balance, and a caseload that keeps every day engaging.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No OOH requirements. Out-of-hours cover provided by partnership with neighbouring practice. 1-in-3 Saturday mornings (8:15–12:30) with time given back in lieu. Note: Practice profile mentions providing own emergency cover, but job-specific text confirms no OOH for this role.

About the Role

You’ll be joining a well-established small animal practice that’s been serving Sheringham for over 50 years. This is a full-time position structured over four or five days totalling 40 hours per week, with a 1-in-3 Saturday morning rota (8:15–12:30, with time given back in lieu) and no overnight out-of-hours requirements thanks to a partnership with a neighbouring emergency provider. You’ll work alongside four other vets, five RVNs, one SVN, one VCA, and four receptionists in a bright, spacious practice designed around comfort and care.

The caseload is predominantly dogs and cats, with regular rabbits, small furries, the occasional chicken, and wildlife cases. Peak holiday season brings added variety with tourists and their pets. Each vet enjoys a guaranteed ops day featuring routine but rewarding surgeries—spays, castrates, lumpectomies, dentals, splenectomies—with continuity of care prioritised wherever possible. You’ll occasionally undertake sole-charge shifts, so confidence in all areas is essential.

Sheringham itself is a charming seaside town on the stunning North Norfolk coast, known for blue-flag beaches, coastal walks, a heritage railway, and a welcoming community. It’s an ideal base for those seeking professional fulfilment alongside exceptional quality of life and fresh sea air.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality primary care for small animal patients (dogs, cats, rabbits, small furries, and occasional wildlife cases)
  • Perform routine and rewarding surgical procedures including spays, castrates, lumpectomies, dentals, and splenectomies during your guaranteed ops days
  • Manage own consultation caseload with continuity of care as priority
  • Work occasional sole-charge shifts with confidence across all clinical areas
  • Collaborate with the five-strong RVN team to deliver excellent patient and owner care
  • Contribute to the team’s commitment to ISFM Silver and Dog Friendly accreditation standards
  • Engage with the local community and practice’s charitable involvement (Cats Protection, Guide Dogs for the Blind, school visits, local events)

Requirements

  • Registered veterinary surgeon (RCVS qualified)
  • Confident and capable clinician, particularly strong in surgery
  • Comfortable working occasional sole-charge shifts with independent clinical decision-making
  • Patient approach with owners and dedication to high standards of care
  • Willingness to be an integral part of a collaborative team

Benefits

  • Salary & Relocation: Up to £75,000 DOE, plus up to £5,000 relocation allowance and £5,000 welcome bonus
  • Time Off: 6.6 weeks annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays), additional holiday for your birthday, and flexible four or five-day week structure (40 hours total)
  • Professional Development: £1,250 annual CPD allowance with 40 hours paid CPD leave, certificate support, learning via IVC Evidensia Academy, access to Vetlexicon online encyclopaedia, research funding available, and £1,250 annual Care Fund per vet
  • Wellbeing: Private medical insurance, 24/7 employee assistance programme, enhanced family-friendly policies (maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental/surrogacy pay), and colleague wellbeing initiatives
  • Professional Support: BVA membership and VDS cover included
  • Pension & Benefits: Company pension scheme with employer contribution, cycle to work and green cars schemes, voluntary benefits package, discounts and cashback with hundreds of retailers, and discounted treatment for your own pets at any IVC Evidensia practice
