Registered Veterinary Nurse – Surgical

About the Role

This is your chance to develop advanced surgical nursing expertise in a fast-paced, specialist referral environment. You’ll work alongside a highly skilled and supportive team of RVNs, delivering exceptional care across a diverse caseload spanning orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and neurology. The role includes a 1:5 weekend rota with time off in lieu, and you can choose between four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts—no compulsory night shifts or on-call, though you may occasionally help with emergency cover if colleagues are absent.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with diagnostic imaging including CT and radiography
• Monitor anaesthesia during surgical procedures
• Support patient recovery and post-operative care
• Clip and prepare patients for theatre
• Scrub in to procedures where required
• Maintain high clinical standards and contribute to the smooth running of surgical cases
• Work across the hospital’s referral disciplines including orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and neurology

Requirements

• Qualified RVN (RCVS registered)
• Confident working independently when required
• Clinical competence in standard nursing protocols
• Referral experience desirable but not essential—comprehensive training is provided for all experience levels
• Additional qualifications (certificates, etc.) advantageous but not required

Moorview Referrals is an advanced referral hospital serving the North East of England from its state-of-the-art facility in Cramlington, near the A19 and Newcastle. Purpose-built to industry-leading standards, the hospital features four operating theatres (one with fluoroscopy), CT scanner, multiple ultrasound machines, video flexible and rigid endoscopy/laparoscopy/thoracoscopy/arthroscopy capabilities, and an MRI scanner.
