Veterinary Receptionist / Client Care Advisor

About the Role

Gloucester Barnwood Vets for Pets is seeking a Veterinary Receptionist / Client Care Advisor to be the heart of their practice. You’ll be the first point of contact for clients and their pets, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere from the moment they walk through the door. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week across Monday to Friday shifts (8am–7pm) plus 1 in 4 Saturday (8am–5pm), with immediate availability.

The practice is ideally situated just five minutes from Gloucester town centre with convenient onsite parking, making it accessible for both clients and staff. You’ll work alongside a supportive and experienced team comprising one Head Clinical Care Advisor, two Clinical Care Advisors, four full-time vets, a Practice Manager, three RVNs, one VCA, and two Student Nurses—a collaborative environment where every team member matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet clients and their pets with professionalism and warmth, setting the tone for an exceptional experience
• Manage the front desk using the practice’s online booking system, coordinating appointments and keeping the day-to-day operations running smoothly
• Handle telephone queries, transferring calls and taking messages accurately
• Process card and cash payments with confidence and care
• Build strong relationships with regular clients and pets, ensuring they feel valued and looked after
• Act as a link between clients and the clinical team, providing guidance and support when needed
• Ensure all interactions meet GDPR standards and maintain professional confidentiality
• Demonstrate a can-do attitude, working calmly and efficiently even during busy periods

Requirements

• Previous experience working in a veterinary practice or reception environment (desirable but not essential)
• Computer literacy and confidence using online booking systems
• Calm, organised approach with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Genuine love for animals and passion for animal care
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to balance compassion with efficiency
• Strong communication skills—both written and verbal
• Professional manner and ability to create a welcoming atmosphere
• Willingness to work a rota including 1 in 4 Saturdays (8am–5pm)
